We’ve finally reached the end of a long, contentious election campaign season. A few days from now, Americans will decide who will serve as our nation’s next Commander in Chief. It’s been notable that this campaign has stirred lots of passion about character, ethics and temperament. However, for the next four years, the winner of the presidential election, as well as members of the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate will be making decisions that will have a significant effect on all of our lives.
This is especially true for our veterans, many of whom have put their lives on the line to protect our way of life and the freedom that we all hold so dearly. That’s why I wanted to share a thoughtful essay written by Chris Marvin, a U.S. Army veteran who advises the entertainment industry regarding images of veterans portrayed in television and motion pictures. Consider this
"The candidates have had opportunities to show their position on veterans’ issues. And veterans have had a chance to tell the candidates what matters most to them. But do the candidates truly understand the dynamics of this slice of the electorate? Do they comprehend the weight that these voters could carry?"
Even though the article was written prior to the 2012 election, the his message is still relevant. Replace Romney or Obama with Clinton and Trump, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that the stakes are huge for veterans.
Even though issues of importance to veterans haven’t given given much attention during the past few months, I hope that Chris’ article will get you excited about going to the polls on Nov. 8.
